Houston Sedation Dentistry
Does the memory of a painful dental experience prevent you from maintaining your dental health? Does your anxiety level escalate at just the thought of picking up the phone and scheduling a dental appointment? Patients who suffer from this level of dental anxiety can benefit from treatment at The Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston, your local Houston sedation dentist.
With sedation dentistry from our committed team, we can often complete complex dental procedures in just a single visit. Patients who fear appointments, need advanced reconstruction, or would just like a more relaxed visit can all benefit from sedation dentistry. At The Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston we offer two great options for patients to choose from.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is one of the most popular and effective sedation dentistry options available for patients to choose from. If you choose this great method, you’ll need to arrive one hour prior to your dental appointment and take a small sedative pill. While you wait for this small pill to take effect, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable and place you on a monitor to watch your vital signs. Once your sedative has helped you reach the proper level of relaxation, your doctor can begin your treatment.
Because the goal of oral conscious sedation is to leave you awake enough to answer questions, you’ll still be able to respond throughout your appointment, though it’s not uncommon for patients to feel so relaxed that they eventually fall asleep. After we’ve completely finished treating your smile, a friend or family member will be needed to drive you home. The effects of oral conscious sedation typically subside by the following day, and in most cases, you will remember little to nothing at all about your dental visit.
IV sedation is the second popular and effective sedation dentistry option available for our Houston-areapatients to choose from. What sets IV sedation apart from oral conscious sedation, though, aside from the way it’s administered, is that IV sedation can be more precisely controlled, allowing for more personalized care.
Here’s how IV sedation works. Working in combination with a board-certified anesthesiologist, your appointment will begin with your doctor identifying exactly the level of sedation you need. Typically, we’ll provide just enough sedation for the patient to remain conscious and able to respond to questions without feeling nervous or uncomfortable. But for patients with severe dental anxiety, an even greater sense of calm may be needed. Working with our anesthesiologist, we can safely and comfortably provide you with what you need so that even the most apprehensive patient can complete their dental treatment.
As with oral conscious sedation, you’ll need a friend or family member to drive you home and stay with you until the effects of IV sedation have completely worn off. But when it has, you can feel confident that you’ll have received life-changing care. That’s the benefit that sedation dentistry can bring to your life. It has been used safely for many years, during millions of dental procedures and with great success.
“I was very impressed by the quality of service and time spent on my teeth and telling me about the results.”
“The staff is always positive, friendly, and efficient. I’ve been a client for over 15 years. I would, however, like to see the dentist at every visit and not just the hygienist, even if just to take a quick look and tell me everything is ok.”
